“When breath is unsteady, the mind is unsteady. When breath is steady, the mind becomes still, achieving complete tranquillity. Hence, one should regulate one’s breath.”

I have been suffering from COPD since September 2022, my pulmonologist
suggested that I enroll for rehabilitation in their centre at Goregaon. The sessions
helped gain my strength and stability. It was here that I was introduced to yoga at the
Ushasham yoga centre. At first,I was skeptical of joining yoga as I felt the sessions
would not help me improve my breathing but after I began my sessions, I noticed
that my breathing and oxygen saturation due to the technique of anulom vilom ,
brahamari and shuddhikriya got better and clear. I wanted to resume my work as a
teacher, hence I told my yoga therapist that I wish to go back to work. I received
support to become mentally strong as well as regained the control over my breath. I
was taught the technique to control my breath and chant “Om” if I get anxious.
During my sessions, I learnt various breathing exercises like Parvatasana,
Mandukasana, Tadasana Triyak Chakrasana, Hasta Parshwasana. Doing yoga
helped me to sleep better, felt energetic, improved flexibility, relieved me from being
anxious.
I have been going to Ushasham yoga centre for the past 8 months and I really feel there is lot of changes in my energy levels and my breathing. I am an Asthma patient and was using inhaler regularly from past many years. Now, with continuous yoga and breathing practice I have stopped using an inhaler. I really don’t feel a need as my lungs are performing better. I always used to have running nose issue which is almost gone. I have benefited a lot with yoga under the training of the yoga therapists who teach with simpler yet effective way of asanas and pranayama. I have learnt Jalneti during my Yogaabhayas sessions and I was so happy the way it was taught truly amazing! I can practice this simple yet effective technique of Jalneti alone at home and it helps me clean my nose and chest. I see lot of elderly patients too showing interest in yoga and exercises and they are truly benefited by it. Thank you to the Ushasham yoga centre team for teaching me and making a difference to my life.
From teaching the fundamentals, importance and benefits of every pranayama and asana, reciting shlokas and mantras, to teaching, practising and guiding every movement with me, I am grateful to therapists of the Ushasham yoga centre and look forward to coming to class every week.
I have come to witness how traditional Patanjali yoga can impact every aspect of my life. What I was particularly impressed was the structured and personalised plan that was followed from the time I had joined. From checking my vitals and metrics to going through a curated cultural diet plan to monitoring my pulse rate after every session, I felt taken care of throughout. It was because of the constant monitoring that a health issue was detected on time and cured. The holistic approach to fitness has taught me the power of patience, discipline and respecting my body.
Very few are fortunate and privileged enough to learn yoga from a guru who lives and breathes yoga in her life. She radiates positivity, strength and stability in every form. I am aware of the improvement in my overall fitness – physically, emotionally and spiritually. I am blessed to find a spiritual guide and lifelong mentor in her.
